Jakarta's Clean Water Production Increased by 14.6% in 2020

The availability of clean water is crucial for human survival. The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) conducts a Clean Water Company Survey throughout Indonesia, including DKI Jakarta.

BPS reported that the volume of clean water production in Jakarta in 2020 reached 634.5 million m³. This figure increased significantly by 14.6% from 553.5 million m³ in 2019.

However, this increase in production volume was not followed by an increase in the volume of water distributed. The amount of clean water distributed or sold reached 494.5 million m³ in 2020, down 3.39% from 2019.

This decrease was mainly due to a reduction in the volume of clean water distributed to commercial and industrial, special, and social customer groups. Other causes include an increase in the volume of water lost through leakage during distribution.

It was recorded that the volume of clean water distributed to commercial and industrial groups in 2020 decreased by 17.3%. Meanwhile, in the same period, the percentage of water lost from the volume of clean water distributed increased by 28.67%.

BPS noted that leakage mitigation efforts have been undertaken to reduce leakage rates to 25% by 2023. These efforts include replacing old water pipes, replacing damaged water meters, improving administrative capabilities, and taking firm action against water theft.
