West Java Had the Longest Toll Road Section in 2020

Toll roads are roads specifically designated for vehicles with two or more axles, aimed at shortening travel distance and time between locations. In Indonesia, West Java is the province with the longest stretch of toll roads.

The length of toll roads in West Java reached 521.15 kilometers (km) in 2020. Statistics Indonesia (BPS) recorded that the total length of operational toll roads in Indonesia reached 2,334.17 km in 2020. The development of toll roads has seen significant growth compared to its initial construction in 1978, namely the Jagowari toll road (Jakarta-Bogor-Ciawi) spanning 59 km.

The second longest stretch of toll roads is located in East Java and Central Java, measuring 422.77 km and 335.92 km respectively.

Fourth in line, the toll roads in Lampung are recorded at 253.81 km. Following this are DKI Jakarta and South Sumatra, which have toll road stretches of 166.40 km and 126.97 km respectively.

Meanwhile, the length of toll roads in other provinces is as follows: Banten at 120.73 km, North Sumatra at 118.26 km, East Kalimantan at 64.87 km, South Sulawesi at 21.68 km, and Bali at 10.07 km. Other provinces not listed here do not have any toll roads.

Besides shortening travel time, the development of toll roads can improve the distribution of goods and services to support economic growth between regions.
