This Province Had the Longest National Road in Indonesia in 2021

The infrastructure sector has been a major focus of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi)'s administration. He has even emphasized the importance of infrastructure development as the foundation for national progress.

During a working visit to Halmahera Barat Regency, North Maluku, on Wednesday (28/9/2022), a journalist questioned the absence of national roads in Halmahera Barat Regency.

Based on data from the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (Ministry of PUPR), there are 67 segments of national roads in North Maluku, totaling 1,203 km in 2021. Of this total length, 62.85 km is located in Halmahera Regency.

According to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), the total length of roads in Halmahera Regency reached 757.18 km in 2020. This comprises 62.85 km of national roads, 181.39 km of provincial roads, and 512.94 km of regency/city roads.

By the end of 2021, the length of national roads reached 46,960 km, stretching from Sabang to Merauke. Of this, 43,120 km (91.81%) were in good condition, and 3,850 km (8.19%) were not.

Papua is the province with the longest national roads, reaching 2,640 km in 2020. 78.74% were in good condition, and 21.26% were not.

The province with the next longest national roads is North Sumatra, at 2,630 km, followed by Central Sulawesi with 2,370 km.

The Special Region of Yogyakarta has the shortest length of national roads, at only 247.91 km. Meanwhile, DKI Jakarta has no national roads.
