Shanghai Port Became the World's Largest Port in 2021

Ports are crucial infrastructure for international trade, serving as the main gateway for loading and unloading export and import goods.

According to shipafreight.com, the Port of Shanghai in China ranks first globally in container volume capacity, reaching 43.3 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units).

A quarter of China's international trade is conducted through the Port of Shanghai, which handles an average of 2,000 container ships per month.

Singapore's port holds the second position with a container volume capacity of 37.1 million TEUs. Following are the ports of Ningbo-Zhoushan and Shenzhen in China, with capacities of 27.5 million TEUs and 25.7 million TEUs respectively.

The Port of Guangzhou, China, has a container volume capacity of 23.2 million TEUs. Meanwhile, the Port of Busan in South Korea has a capacity of 21.9 million TEUs, and the Port of Qingdao, China, has a capacity of 21 million TEUs.

The Port of Hong Kong's container volume capacity reaches 18.3 million TEUs. The capacities of the Port of Tianjin, China, and the Port of Rotterdam, Netherlands, are 17.2 million TEUs and 14.8 million TEUs respectively.
