The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that the number of domestic airline passengers in May 2024 reached 5.31 million. This figure represents a 9.36% decrease compared to April 2024, which recorded 5.86 million passengers.
BPS noted that passenger numbers decreased at Kualanamu-Medan Airport by 16.89%, Hasanuddin-Makassar Airport by 12.80%, and Soekarno Hatta-Tangerang Airport by 2.86%.
Conversely, passenger numbers increased at Ngurah Rai-Denpasar Airport by 6.77%, while the number of passengers at Juanda-Surabaya Airport remained relatively stable.
Cumulatively, from January to May 2024, the number of domestic air passengers totaled 25.2 million, a 1.11% increase compared to the same period last year, which saw 24.9 million passengers.

Unlike domestic routes, the number of international airline passengers in May 2024 reached 1.6 million, a 7.12% increase compared to April 2024's 1.49 million passengers.
The largest contributors were Hasanuddin-Makassar Airport, which saw a surge of 76.60%, and Ngurah Rai-Denpasar Airport with a 10.23% increase.
Conversely, passenger numbers decreased at Kualanamu-Medan Airport by 10.42%, Juanda-Surabaya Airport by 5.72%, and Soekarno Hatta-Tangerang Airport by 0.20%.
From January to May 2024, the number of international air passengers, using both national and foreign airlines, reached 7.4 million. This represents a 29.17% increase compared to the same period last year, which recorded 5.69 million passengers.
