The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) has set the fare for the Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Bekasi Light Rail Transit (LRT Jabodebek), scheduled to begin operations on August 30, 2023.
The LRT Jabodebek fare calculation formula is stipulated in Minister of Transportation Regulation Number PM 25 of 2023 concerning the Implementation of the Integrated Jabodebek Light Rail Transit (LRT), enacted on June 8, 2023.
The government also set the subsidized fare for the LRT Jabodebek through the Minister of Transportation Decision Number KM 67 of 2023 concerning the Fare for Public Transportation using the Integrated Jabodebek Light Rail Transit (LRT) to Fulfill Public Service Obligations, on July 14, 2023.
Director General of Railways Kemenhub, Risal Wasal, stated that his office had conducted a study to determine an affordable LRT Jabodebek fare.
This study included ability to pay (ATP), willingness to pay (WTP), comparison with fares of other transportation modes, and a study of the operational costs incurred by the operator.
"From the results of this study, it was determined through Minister of Transportation Decision Number 67 of 2023 that the LRT Jabodebek fare is Rp5,000 for the first kilometer (km) and Rp700 for subsequent kilometers," said Risal, as reported on the official Kemenhub website on Friday (August 18, 2023).
Risal gave an example comparing the proposed LRT fare from the operator (i.e., before subsidy) with the subsidized LRT fare on several routes.
For example, for the LRT route from Dukuh Atas Station to Jatimulya Station, approximately 28 km long, the operator's proposed fare is Rp37,268, while the subsidized fare is Rp23,900.
Then, for the route from Harjamukti Station to Jatimulya Station, with a distance of approximately 33 km, the operator's proposed fare is Rp43,923, while the subsidized fare is Rp27,400.
The following is a complete list of the government-subsidized LRT Jabodebek fares by route:
