Based on a report by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the number of domestic airline passengers in November 2021 reached 3.5 million. This figure represents a 19.81% increase compared to October 2021, which recorded 2.92 million passengers.
The number of domestic airline passengers in November 2021 was the second highest throughout the year. It was almost equal to the highest record of 3.52 million in June 2021.
The number of air passengers plummeted to only 995,400 during the implementation of Emergency Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM Darurat) and PPKM Levels 1-4 in July 2021. However, the number showed recovery after the easing of PPKM regulations. In August, the number of airline passengers increased to 1.07 million, in September to 1.97 million, and in October to 2.92 million.
The increase in passenger numbers in November 2021 occurred across all airports. The highest number of passengers originated from Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tangerang, with 975,000 passengers, a rise of 18.28% from October 2021.
Furthermore, domestic airline passengers at Juanda Airport, Surabaya, totaled 278,800, up 20.43% from October 2021. Next, domestic airline passengers from Ngurah Rai Airport, Denpasar, increased by 21.92% to 274,200 in November 2021.
Domestic airline passengers from Hasanuddin Airport, Makassar, totaled 182,400 in November 2021, a 14.72% increase from the previous month. Meanwhile, domestic airline passengers from Kualanamu Airport, Medan, numbered 143,600, a 23.26% increase from October 2021.
Cumulatively, the number of domestic airline passengers from January to November 2021 totaled 26.1 million. This figure is down 9.26% compared to the same period last year, which recorded 28.7 million passengers.
