According to data from the ASEAN Automotive Federation (AAF), motorcycle sales in Southeast Asia reached 4.31 million units from January to May 2024.
This figure is down 3.4% year-on-year (yoy) compared to the 4.47 million units sold during the same period last year.
It should be noted that the AAF only collects sales data for two-wheeled vehicles from five Southeast Asian countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand.
As of May 2024, Indonesia remained the largest motorcycle market, with sales of 2.66 million units, representing 61.65% of total regional sales. Despite its dominance, motorcycle sales in Indonesia during this period decreased by 1.8% (yoy).
Thailand ranked second with motorcycle sales of 739,988 units, down 9.2% (yoy). The Philippines followed with 685,314 units, a slight decrease of 0.5% (yoy).
Malaysia sold 223,537 motorcycle units, a significant drop of 12.6% (yoy). Meanwhile, motorcycle sales in Singapore totaled only 5,099 units, down 5% (yoy).
The AAF also reported that motorcycle production in these five Southeast Asian countries reached 4.46 million units from January to May 2024, a decrease of 4.7% (yoy).
Indonesia remained the largest producer with 2.86 million units, followed by Thailand with 837,975 units, the Philippines with 544,028 units, and Malaysia with 217,271 units.
