PT Angkasa Pura I (Persero), or AP I, has compiled passenger and aircraft movement data from several airports it manages during the first half of 2023. This is to measure the activity levels at these airports.
According to Antaranews, I Gusti Ngurah Rai Bali Airport was the busiest, recording 9.7 million passenger movements between January and June 2023. During the same period, there were 64,648 aircraft movements.
"I Gusti Ngurah Rai Bali Airport is also the Angkasa Pura I (AP I) airport that recorded the highest passenger growth among the 15 airports we manage in the first half of 2023," said PT Angkasa Pura I President Director Faik Fahmi in an official statement on Friday (July 21, 2023).
Faik added that the number of passenger movements in the first half of 2023 surged by 127% year-on-year (yoy) compared to the same period the previous year, which reached 4.3 million passenger movements.
Aircraft movements grew by 103% (yoy), up from 31,872 movements.
Faik explained that this was supported by the increased interest of Indonesian people in returning to Bali for tourism, a positive sign that Bali remains a highly sought-after tourist destination.
"In the first half of 2023, I Gusti Ngurah Rai Bali Airport also recorded very significant growth in the number of international passenger movements, namely 5.1 million passengers compared to 752,000 passengers in the first half of 2022," said Faik.
Faik mentioned that the number of international passengers served by I Gusti Ngurah Rai Bali Airport in the first half of 2023 exceeded the number of international passengers served throughout 2022, which was 4.5 million passengers.
The second busiest AP I airport was Juanda Surabaya Airport. This airport served 6.8 million passenger movements, comprising 5.8 million domestic passengers and 945,557 international passengers.
Aircraft movements at Juanda Surabaya Airport totaled 47,031 in the first half of 2023, with 41,353 domestic movements and 5,678 international movements.

Sultan Hasanuddin Makassar Airport had the third-highest number of aircraft movements with 41,087 movements, consisting of 40,013 domestic movements and 1,074 international movements.
"In total, these three airports served 21.6 million passenger movements and 152,766 aircraft movements, or 66% of total passenger movements and 56% of total aircraft movements across our 15 airports during the first half of 2023," said Faik Fahmi.
According to its official website, Angkasa Pura recorded 33.11 million passenger movements across its 15 managed airports between January and June 2023.
With the number of passenger movements in the first half of 2023, AP I's recovery rate reached 87% compared to the first half of 2019 (pre-Covid-19 pandemic), which reached 37,899,691 passengers.
