According to data from the environmentally friendly technology website, *CleanTechnica*, the Tesla Model Y was the world's best-selling electric vehicle in the first half of 2023. Elon Musk's electric car sold 579,550 units between January and June 2023, the highest compared to other electric vehicle types.
Another Tesla vehicle, the Tesla Model 3, was the next best-selling electric car. Global sales of this electric car reached 279,320 units.
“The Tesla Model Y is far ahead of the others, while behind it, the Tesla Model 3 wins the race over the BYD Song and Qin Plus,” *CleanTechnica* stated on its website.
Next are products from the Chinese manufacturer BYD Automotive: the BYD Song (259,720 units); BYD Qin (204,250 units); BYD Yuan Plus (201,500 units); and BYD Dolphin (158,510 units).
Other electric vehicles from China, such as the Wuling HongGuang Mini EV, and the GAC Aion 5 and Y, also made the list of best-selling electric vehicles.
Although Tesla was the best-selling electric vehicle brand, Chinese products, particularly those from BYD Automotive, dominated the global electric vehicle market from January to June 2023.
*CleanTechnica* data recorded that cumulative sales of BYD Automotive electric vehicles reached 1.19 million units. Tesla's overall sales totaled 888,870 units in the first half of the year.
