Motorcycle Sales Increase, Scooters Are the Best-Selling Type

The motorcycle industry recorded positive performance in the domestic market at the beginning of 2022.

According to a report by the Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI), as of January 2022, motorcycle sales in the domestic market reached 443,890 units.

This figure represents a 14% increase compared to December 2021 (year to date/YTD), where domestic motorcycle sales totaled 387,797 units.

This achievement in January 2022 is also 12% higher than the same period the previous year (year on year/YOY). In January 2021, domestic motorcycle sales totaled 394,733 units.

AISI predicts that domestic motorcycle sales this year will be higher than last year. Growth in demand for new motorcycles in the domestic market is predicted to increase to a total of 5.1 million to 5.4 million units in 2022.

By type, scooter sales contributed the most, reaching 88.66% of total sales in January 2022.

Underbone motorcycle sales contributed 5.51% of total domestic motorcycle sales. Sport motorcycle sales accounted for 5.83%.
