In 2022, the Wuling Air EV became the [link to article about Wuling Air EV dominating the Indonesian electric vehicle market in 2022] best-selling electric car in Indonesia. However, its ranking was overtaken by Hyundai earlier this year.
According to data from the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo), in January 2023, wholesale sales of the Wuling Air EV Long Range in the domestic market were only 35 units.
Meanwhile, wholesale sales of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 Signature Extended reached 194 units, the highest among other battery electric vehicle (BEV) types.
Here's a breakdown of wholesale sales volume of BEV electric cars in Indonesia in January 2023 by brand:
* Hyundai Ioniq 5 Signature Extended: 194 units
* Hyundai Ioniq 5 Prime Extended: 36 units
* Wuling Air EV Long Range: 35 units
* Lexus UX 300e: 18 units
* Toyota BZ4X: 7 units
* Nissan Leaf: 4 units
* Hyundai Ioniq 5 Prime Regular: 3 units
* Hyundai Ioniq 5 Signature Regular: 1 unit
Overall, wholesale sales volume of BEV electric cars in the domestic market in January 2023 reached 298 units.
This figure is down approximately 87% month-on-month (mom) compared to December 2022, which saw sales reach 2,404 units, the highest record of last year.
Nevertheless, January 2023's achievement is still about 727% higher year-on-year (yoy) compared to January 2022, indicating that the overall trend remains very positive.
Starting March 20, 2023, the government will provide incentives in the form of tax adjustments for buyers of electric vehicles. This incentive is planned for 35,900 BEV electric cars.
"This incentive is intended to accelerate the KBLBB industry in Indonesia. This acceleration is aimed at promoting energy efficiency and resilience, as well as achieving clean and environmentally friendly air quality," said Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Pandjaitan in a press conference in Jakarta on Monday (March 6, 2023).
