According to data from the Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI), domestic motorcycle sales in July 2023 reached 475,428 units, down 3.71% month-on-month (mom), but up 45.63% year-on-year (yoy).
Scooter/matic motorcycles were significantly more popular than other types in the first half of this year.
This is evident in the sales proportion of scooter/matic motorcycles, which reached 89.53% of total motorcycle sales in Indonesia in July 2023.
Scooter/matic motorcycles generally have a low seat and a wide footrest. These motorcycles are equipped with an automatic transmission system or Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), so riders do not need to manually shift gears.
Meanwhile, bebek/underbone motorcycles were the second best-selling type. According to AISI data, these motorcycles accounted for 5.26% of total domestic motorcycle sales in July 2023.
Bebek/underbone motorcycles generally use a manual transmission system, requiring users to regularly adjust gear shifting according to road conditions.
On the other hand, sport motorcycles were the least popular among Indonesian consumers. Recorded sales of sport motorcycles accounted for only 5.21% of total domestic motorcycle sales in July 2023.
Sport motorcycles are designed for high speed and performance. Typically, sport motorcycles have a larger engine capacity and a more aggressive design. These vehicles are commonly used for racing or touring.
