Research: Post-COVID-19 Pandemic, Majority of People Choose Private Vehicles

YouGov's "International Automotive Report 2021" reveals that 83% of people worldwide plan to use private vehicles over the next 12 months. This continues a trend observed before and during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The preference for private cars is linked to social distancing measures aimed at preventing coronavirus transmission. Furthermore, using private vehicles provides a sense of personal safety and space.

The research also indicates that several developing countries intend to use private vehicles more frequently in the future. In Indonesia, for example, 33% of respondents chose to use private vehicles more often in the next 12 months.

Besides private vehicles, 70% of global respondents opted for public transportation. Additionally, 52% chose taxis.

45% of respondents selected ride-hailing services, while 32% chose shared car services.

The research surveyed 19,000 respondents from 17 countries, including Indonesia. The real-time survey, covering mobility, transportation, and automotive purchasing behavior, was conducted from March 8 to April 21, 2021.
