Private vehicle users, both cars and motorcycles, will dominate this year's Lebaran homecoming travel. A recorded 40 million people out of a predicted 79.4 million people intending to travel for the homecoming chose this mode of transportation.
This finding is based on a survey on the potential number of homecoming travelers during the 2022 Lebaran conducted by the Transportation Research and Development Agency (Balitbanghub).
The second most popular mode of transportation after private vehicles is road transport (buses and ferries) with 26.7 million people, followed by airplanes with 8.9 million people, and trains with 8.2 million people.
Furthermore, 1.4 million people will use ships, and 0.1 million people will choose other modes of transportation.
The survey also shows that of the 79.4 million people predicted to travel for the homecoming, 13 million are from the Jabodetabek area. The most popular destinations are Central Java with 23.5 million people, East Java with 16.8 million people, and West Java with 14.7 million people.
Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi stated that several steps have been prepared to anticipate the surge in homecoming travelers this year, one of which is preparing transportation infrastructure and facilities to meet the mobility needs of travelers.
“This year's homecoming presents a significant challenge, given the high public enthusiasm. Therefore, under the coordination of the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) as the coordinator for the Lebaran homecoming, we have conducted intensive coordination among relevant parties to realize a Safe and Healthy Homecoming,” said the Minister of Transportation in a Working Meeting with Commission V of the DPR RI on Wednesday (6/4).
