Based on EV-Volumes data, the total global volume of electric vehicle sales reached 10 million units in 2022, the highest record in the last decade.
Of this amount, approximately 73% were battery electric vehicles (BEVs), while the remaining 27% were plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs).
BEV-type electric vehicles use energy solely from a battery, which can be recharged using a home power grid or at a Public Electric Vehicle Charging Station (SPKLU).
PHEV-type vehicles have two types of drive engines: a conventional gasoline-powered engine, plus a battery-based engine that can be charged like a BEV.
Here are the top 10 electric vehicle brands with the highest global sales volume in 2022, according to EV-Volumes data:
1. Tesla Model Y (BEV): 771,300 units
2. BYD Song Plus (BEV and PHEV): 477,094 units
