The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded a 29.11% increase in the consumer price index (CPI) sub-index for passenger transportation services in Pangkal Pinang City to 129.38 in July 2022 from the previous month. Similarly, compared to July 2021, public transportation costs in the city surged by 89.82% (year on year/yoy). This year-on-year increase in passenger transportation services is the highest compared to 89 other regencies/cities surveyed by BPS.

The government's increase in non-subsidized fuel prices last month has triggered a rise in passenger transportation costs in several regions. Soaring global crude oil prices above US$100 per barrel have forced the government to raise non-subsidized fuel prices to curb the surge in energy subsidies.
