10 Most Congested Cities in Asia in 2021: Where Did Jakarta Rank?

Traffic congestion has become a daily problem frequently experienced by residents of major cities. This is caused by the number of vehicles exceeding road capacity and the lack of adequate public transportation.

According to Numbeo's Traffic Congestion Index score, Colombo, Sri Lanka, was the most congested city in Asia in 2021, with a score of 307.66 points.

Delhi, India, ranked next as the most congested city in Asia with a score of 285.09 points. Then, Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, scored 283.43 points. Following that, the traffic congestion index scores for Kolkata, India, and Dhaka, Bangladesh, were 275.27 points and 267.48 points, respectively.

Next, the Traffic Congestion Index for Manila, Philippines, was 258.1 points, and for Mumbai, India, it was 255.22 points. Meanwhile, Jakarta ranked eighth as the most congested city in Asia with a score of 254.63 points. Tehran, Iran, and Bangalore, India, scored 253.44 points and 247.58 points, respectively.

This Traffic Congestion Index calculates several indicators such as time spent on the road, travel dissatisfaction levels, CO2 emissions, and inefficiencies caused by congestion.
