After reaching its highest record in December 2021, the number of passengers on the Yogyakarta-Solo Commuter Rail (KRL) began to decline at the beginning of this year. In February 2022, KRL passengers were recorded at 220,713, a 22.5% decrease from the previous month.
Observing the trend, KRL Yogyakarta-Solo ridership tended to increase from February 2021 to June 2021, although it temporarily decreased in April and May, as shown in the graph.
Then, the number of Yogyakarta-Solo KRL passengers plummeted 76% during the surge in Covid-19 cases in July 2021, reaching only 45,697 passengers. Covid-19 cases remained high in August, with KRL ridership only slightly increasing to 47,906 passengers.
In September 2021, KRL passengers began to increase as Covid-19 cases decreased and community activities were gradually relaxed. KRL ridership peaked in December 2021 at 290,618 passengers.
For information, the Yogyakarta-Solo KRL service was inaugurated by President Joko Widodo on March 1, 2021. In total, from its initial operation until February 2022, the Yogyakarta-Solo KRL has served more than 2.2 million users.
