Domestic air passenger numbers in April 2022 recorded a decrease. Statistics Indonesia (BPS) reported that domestic air passengers totaled 3.8 million, a 4.53% drop compared to March 2022.
This is despite the aviation industry showing relatively strong performance at the beginning of 2022 compared to the same period the previous year.

However, this figure decreased to 2.9 million in February 2022, rose again to 3.9 million in March 2022, and fell again in April 2022.
BPS noted that the decrease in April 2022 was most significant at Ngurah Rai-Denpasar Airport, with a 22.70% month-on-month decline. This was followed by Hasanuddin-Makassar Airport (18.28%), Juanda-Surabaya Airport (10.65%), and Kualanamu-Medan Airport (6.32%).
Conversely, Soekarno Hatta-Tangerang Airport saw a 0.97% increase in April 2022, reaching 1.2 million passengers, the highest among all airports.
Cumulatively, the number of domestic air passengers from January to April 2022 totaled 14.5 million, a 49.59% increase compared to the same period last year, which saw 9.7 million passengers.
