Indonesia currently has 299 airports serving both domestic and international flights. During the 2015-2018 period, the government built ten new airports, nearing the target of 15 airports set in the 2015-2019 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN).
Soekarno-Hatta Airport remains the largest airport in Indonesia by area, covering 2,137 hectares (ha). Operational since 1986, this airport has three terminals with a capacity of 66 million passengers per year. PT Angkasa Pura II will construct Terminal 4 starting in 2021 to increase the airport's capacity by 45 million passengers per year.
The second largest airport in Indonesia is the West Java International Airport (BIJB) or Kertajati Airport, covering 1,800 ha. Inaugurated on May 24, 2018, this airport serves as a replacement for Husein Sastranegara Airport in Bandung. BIJB's capacity reaches 11 million passengers per year.
The third largest airport in Indonesia is Hang Nadim Airport in Batam City, Riau Islands Province, with an area of 1,760 ha. This airport boasts the longest runway in Indonesia, measuring 4,025 meters. A list of the ten largest airports in Indonesia can be seen in the graph below.
