Indonesia's Motorcycle Exports Decline in January 2022

Although motorcycle sales in the domestic market increased, Indonesia's motorcycle export performance declined in January 2022.

According to data from the Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI), motorcycle exports in January 2022 totaled 51,036 units. This is a 12.9% decrease (year to date/ytd) from December 2021, when exports reached 58,575 units.

Compared year-on-year (yoy), motorcycle exports in January 2022 also fell by 28% from the January 2021 figure of 81,929 units.

Motorcycle exports in January 2021 were the highest throughout 2021, with a total of 803,931 units for the year.

AISI then predicted that motorcycle sales in the export market in 2022 would increase by 15%-20% compared to 2021.

By type, scooter motorcycles still contributed the most, reaching 70.92% of total exports in January 2022.

Meanwhile, the proportion of sport and underbone motorcycle sales was 17.89% and 11.82% of total exports, respectively.
