The number of fatalities due to accidents on four Jakarta toll roads decreased in the last few years until 2020. Based on Jasa Marga data, the trend of fatalities due to accidents decreased from 65 cases in 2018, 53 cases in 2019, to 38 cases in 2020.
Of the 65 cases in 2018, the highest number of fatalities was recorded on the Jakarta-Cikampek (Japek) toll road with 31 cases. Next, 18 fatalities were recorded on the Jakarta-Bogor-Ciawi (Jagorawi) toll road, 10 on the Jakarta-Tangerang toll road, and 8 on the Cawang-Tomang toll road.
In 2019, a total of 26 fatalities were recorded on the Japek toll road out of 53 total cases. 10 fatalities were recorded on the Jagorawi toll road, 10 on the Jakarta-Tangerang toll road, and 7 on the Cawang-Tomang toll road.
Finally, there were 22 fatalities on the Japek toll road in 2020. Then, 7 fatalities on the Jagorawi toll road, 6 on the Jakarta-Tangerang toll road, and 3 on the Cawang-Tomang toll road. A total of 38 fatalities occurred on these four toll roads in 2020.
Toll road accidents made headlines on November 4, 2021. The first accident involved the Dean of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry at Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Prof. I Gede Supatra Budisatria, on the Cikopo-Palimanan (Cipali) toll road. There were 4 victims in this accident. Gede, who was driving the vehicle, died, while the 3 other victims survived with injuries.
The second accident involved the artist Vanessa Angel and her husband, Bibi Andriansyah. The accident occurred on the Nganjuk toll road towards Surabaya, East Java. Five people were involved in the accident; Vanessa and Bibi died, while two others suffered serious injuries and one sustained minor injuries.
