PT Pelni (Persero), Indonesia's National Shipping Company, predicts a surge in passengers at several ports during the 2022 Eid al-Fitr homecoming season.

The highest passenger surge is predicted at Makassar ports during the period from 15 days before to 15 days after Eid (April 17 - May 18, 2022), with a total estimated passenger count of 35,122.

Meanwhile, the number of passengers at Surabaya ports during the same period is predicted to reach 28,639, while Balikpapan ports are expected to see 25,612 passengers.

Pelni's Passenger Transportation Director, Yahya Kuncoro, stated that the company will take anticipatory measures to accommodate the surge in passengers.

"For routes predicted to experience a passenger surge, we will increase the frequency of ship sailings," said Yahya in the "Safe and Healthy Homecoming" FMB9 Webinar on Monday (April 18).

"Our strategy involves temporarily relocating ships from less busy routes to busier ones," he continued.
