The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that Jakarta experienced inflation of 0.40% month-to-month (m-to-m) in November 2021. Jakarta's inflation last month jumped 0.32 percentage points from October 2021, which was 0.08%.
From January to November 2021, the capital city experienced inflation eight times and deflation three times. The November 2021 inflation was the second highest, as prices in Jakarta rose again towards the end of 2021.
The highest inflation occurred in May at 0.41% due to a surge in prices ahead of Idul Fitri. The difference in inflation last month compared to May's inflation was very small, only 0.01 percentage points. Nevertheless, Jakarta's inflation remains within safe limits. This is because the inflation rate for 2021 remained below 0.5%.
By commodity, the highest inflation occurred in the food, beverages, and tobacco group, at 1.13%. The increase in the prices of cooking oil, broiler chicken, and chicken eggs caused this group's inflation to soar.
The next commodity group with relatively high inflation was transportation, at 0.47%. The household goods and equipment maintenance group recorded inflation of 0.33%.
Next, the personal care and other services group experienced inflation of 0.29%. Then, the housing, water, electricity, and household fuel group at 0.25%; the recreation, sports, and culture group at 0.23%; the clothing and footwear group at 0.11%; and the information, communication, and financial services group at 0.03%.
Meanwhile, the education group and the food and beverage/restaurant group experienced neither inflation nor deflation. The health group experienced deflation of 0.21%.
