According to the ASEAN Automotive Federation (AAF), ASEAN's automotive production reached 344,783 units in January 2024.
This figure represents a 7.6% year-on-year (yoy) decrease compared to January of the previous year, which saw production of 372,953 units.
Thailand was the largest automotive producer in January 2024, with a production volume of 142,102 units, accounting for 41.21% of total ASEAN production.
Despite its leading position, Thailand's automotive production decreased by 12.5% yoy at the beginning of the year.
Indonesia ranked second with a total production of 103,234 units, a 22.22% yoy decline.
Malaysia occupied third place with 76,077 units, followed by Vietnam with 12,466 units, and the Philippines with 10,771 units.
Myanmar was the smallest automotive producer in ASEAN at the beginning of the year, with only 133 units.
The AAF report also indicates that ASEAN automotive sales in January 2024 decreased by 5.2% yoy to 245,979 units.
Indonesia was the largest automotive market in ASEAN at the beginning of the year, with sales of 69,619 units.
This was followed by Malaysia with 65,499 units, Thailand with 54,458 units, the Philippines with 34,060 units, Vietnam with 19,243 units, Singapore with 2,872 units, and Myanmar with 228 units.
