Many Ride-hailing Drivers in Indonesia Hope the App Reduce Tariff Cuts

Kompas Research and Development surveyed the aspirations of online motorcycle taxi (ojol) drivers regarding what the app companies need to do to improve their welfare.

The results showed that 45% of respondents hope that the app companies can reduce the amount of fare deductions.

"In line with the demands of last year's online motorcycle taxi demonstrations, it is hoped that the amount of fare deductions that drivers have to pay will only be 10%," said the Kompas Research and Development team in their report on Monday (9/2/2026).

Next, 23.7% of respondents want the app companies to evaluate the program and improve the app system, such as the savings program, account levels, and algorithms.

Respondents also hope that the app companies can increase the value of incentives (7.5%); provide health and employment insurance (7.3%); increase service fees (5.8%); not unilaterally suspend or deactivate accounts (4.6%); and provide bonuses on certain days (2.5%).

The survey also found that the majority, or 83.6% of respondents, feel that the profit-sharing between app companies and drivers is unfair.

Kompas Research and Development conducted this survey on 483 online motorcycle taxi driver respondents from 17 provinces in Indonesia.

The data collection was carried out from January 19 to February 2, 2026 through telephone interviews. The survey's margin of error is +/- 4.46% and the confidence level is 95% under simple random sampling conditions.
