Global Automotive Company's Expectations from Software Implementation

According to a June 2025 Capgemini Research Institute survey, most global automotive companies have already achieved or expect to achieve cost savings and operational efficiencies.

This is expected to be realized through Software-driven Mobility (SDM). Capgemini defines SDM as all software related to vehicle and mobility products and services.

“However, it does not include other types of software systems, such as manufacturing and supply chain, finance, or marketing,” stated Capgemini in its publication, The Software-driven Mobility Era: Beyond Vehicles.

The following percentages represent global automotive companies highlighting the benefits already achieved or expected to be achieved through SDM by 2025, according to the Capgemini survey:

• Cost reduction (e.g., reducing costs by eliminating redundancies and improving planning/forecasting): 80%
• Increased productivity/efficiency (e.g., agile and intelligent operations): 76%
• Improved environmental footprint (e.g., CO2 emissions): 69%
• Launch of innovative products and services: 63%
• Improved customer experience/satisfaction: 61%

Capgemini explains that while software is often pursued for cost reduction and operational efficiency, the true value lies in creating a competitive advantage and enhancing customer experience.

“In fact, 61% of organizations in our survey have already achieved or expect to achieve improved customer satisfaction through software initiatives,” wrote Capgemini.

The Capgemini survey, conducted in June 2025, involved 200 automotive companies from North America, Europe, and the Asia Pacific region as respondents. The survey was supplemented by 18 interviews with industry experts.
