Two major electric vehicle producers, China and South Korea, are vying for market share in Indonesia.
However, based on Gaikindo data, Chinese manufacturers are more dominant. In the first quarter of 2025, the Chinese automotive brand BYD achieved the highest electric vehicle wholesales in the Indonesian market with a volume of 5,718 units.
Many other Chinese electric vehicle brands are also in the top 10, namely Wuling, Denza, Chery, Aion, Geely, and Neta.
Meanwhile, the highest-selling South Korean manufacturer is Hyundai, with 574 units.
The two manufacturers have significantly different unit prices. According to the official BYD and Hyundai websites, South Korean-made cars are noticeably more expensive.
The Ioniq 6 from Hyundai, for example, is priced at Rp1.23 billion based on data from Friday, April 25, 2025. Compare this to BYD's most expensive model, the Seal, which is Rp639 million, or half the price of the Ioniq 6.
