According to a Clean Technica report, global electric vehicle sales reached 1.2 million units in February 2025, a 49% year-on-year (YoY) surge.
During this period, the Tesla Model Y was the world's best-selling electric vehicle with sales of 53,545 units. However, its sales volume plunged by 28% (YoY).
"With updated units arriving in March, the figures are expected to recover," Clean Technica wrote in its report on Saturday (April 5, 2025).
Next in the ranking was the BYD Song/Seal, recording sales of 45,185 units. This figure combines sales of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs).
Besides Tesla and BYD, the top 10 best-selling electric vehicles globally last month included manufacturers from China, such as Geely Geome Xingyuan, Xiaomi SU7, and Xpeng Mona M03.
"Another highlight this month is the continued success of the Xiaomi SU7, a car the size of a (Tesla) Model S that resembles a Porsche, but is cheaper than a Model 3," wrote Clean Technica.
