PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), or KAI, reported that the number of passengers on long-distance and local trains reached 51.83 million in 2024. This figure is up 6.9% year-on-year (YoY) from 48.5 million passengers in the previous year.
KAI Vice President of Public Relations, Anne Purba, explained that this achievement was driven by the increasing public interest in using trains as an efficient mode of transportation.
“More and more people are choosing trains because of their contribution to environmental sustainability, comfort, and convenience,” said Anne in her official statement on Wednesday (January 15, 2025).
The following is a list of the top 10 long-distance and local trains with the highest passenger volume in 2024:
1. KA 167 Joglosemarkerto (Solo Balapan-Tegal-Purwokerto-Solo Balapan): 413,320 passengers
2. KA 161 Joglosemarkerto (Solo Balapan-Semarang Tawang): 384,336 passengers
3. KA 233 Matarmaja (Malang-Pasar Senen): 373,978 passengers
4. KA 220 Kertajaya (Pasarsenen-Surabaya Pasarturi): 363,571 passengers
5. KA 217 Jayakarta (Surabaya Gubeng-Pasar Senen): 360,887 passengers
6. KA 219 Kertajaya (Surabaya Pasar Turi-Pasar Senen): 356,324 passengers
7. KA 212 Logawa (Purwokerto-Jember): 334,012 passengers
8. KA 234 Matarmaja (Pasar Senen-Malang): 331,669 passengers
9. KA 107 Jayabaya (Malang-Pasar Senen): 322,749 passengers
10. KA 218 Jayakarta (Pasar Senen-Surabaya Gubeng): 320,228 passengers
KAI also reported that in 2024, the average on-time performance (OTP) for passenger train departures reached 99.77%, up from 99.54% in 2023.
“Arrival OTP also increased from 93.98% in 2023 to 96.05% in 2024,” said Anne.
