The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reports a further decrease in the number of airline passengers, both domestic and international routes.
The number of domestic air passengers reached 4.92 million in November 2024.
This passenger volume decreased by 7.45% from October 2024, which recorded 5.31 million passengers. October's figure also saw a 1.87% decrease from September 2024's 5.41 million passengers.
Historically, this passenger decline has occurred for four consecutive months, as shown in the graph.
The decrease in passenger numbers occurred across all major airports observed: Ngurah Rai-Denpasar (11.25%), Juanda-Surabaya (9.36%), Hasanuddin-Makassar (9.19%), Soekarno Hatta-Tangerang (6.51%), and Kualanamu-Medan (5.53%).
The highest number of domestic passengers was recorded at Soekarno Hatta Airport in Tangerang, reaching 1.47 million passengers, or 29.95% of the total domestic passengers. This was followed by Juanda-Surabaya with 399,800 passengers, or 8.12%.
Cumulatively, from January to November 2024, the number of domestic air passengers totaled 57.69 million, a 1.25% increase year-on-year (YoY) compared to the same period last year (56.98 million).
A decrease also occurred on international routes. In November 2024, the passenger volume was recorded at 1.57 million, down 6.35% from October 2024's 1.67 million.
October 2024's figure also decreased by 2.22% from September 2024's 1.71 million passengers.
BPS data shows a decrease in passenger numbers at Hasanuddin-Makassar Airport (26.90%), Ngurah Rai-Denpasar (14.19%), Juanda-Surabaya (1.58%), and Soekarno Hatta-Tangerang (1.16%).
However, an increase in passenger numbers was observed at Kualanamu-Medan Airport (0.34%).
The highest number of international passengers was recorded at Soekarno Hatta-Tangerang Airport, reaching 717,700 passengers, or 45.68% of the total outbound passengers. This was followed by Ngurah Rai-Denpasar with 558,800 passengers, or 35.57%.
In total, from January to November 2024, the number of air passengers on international routes, both with national and foreign airlines, reached 17.3 million, a 21.86% YoY increase from January to November 2023 (14.17 million).
