Based on data from the ASEAN Automotive Federation (AAF), motorcycle sales in Southeast Asia reached 6.98 million units from January to August 2024. This figure shows a slight increase of 0.3% year-on-year (YoY).
The AAF compiled this two-wheeled vehicle sales data from five Southeast Asian countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand.
Up to August 2024, Indonesia recorded the highest sales at 4.34 million units, a growth of 3.1% (YoY). This achievement represents 62% of total motorcycle sales in ASEAN.
Thailand ranked second with motorcycle sales of 1.16 million units, down 10.8% (YoY). The Philippines followed with 1.09 million units, up 4.9%.
Motorcycle sales in Malaysia totaled 371,448 units, down 6.3% (YoY). Meanwhile, only 8,223 units were sold in Singapore, up 2.1% (YoY).
The AAF also recorded that motorcycle production in these five Southeast Asian countries reached 7.24 million units from January to August 2024. Volume decreased by 1% (YoY).
Indonesia was the largest producer with a production volume of 4.69 million units. This was followed by Thailand with 1.28 million units, the Philippines with 893,293 units, and Malaysia with 365,876 units.
