Based on data from the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo), domestic wholesale car sales reached 72,667 units in September 2024.

This figure is down 4.76% month-to-month (mtm) from August 2024, which recorded sales of 76,304 units. Compared to September of the previous year, the figure is down 9.07% year-on-year (yoy).

Cumulatively, domestic wholesale car sales from January to September 2024 totaled 633,218 units.

Sales volume decreased by 16.21% compared to the cumulative sales from January to September 2023 (cumulative-to-cumulative/ctc), which reached 755,778 units.

Furthermore, Gaikindo stated that the targeted car sales figure of 1.1 million units this year may not be achieved.

"Indeed, consumer purchasing power has significantly decreased, and sales are very slow. It seems that sales projections need to be revised," said Gaikindo Chairman I Jongkie Sugiarto in a statement, as reported by Antara on Friday (4/10/2024).

However, according to Jongkie, this decision will be discussed further with Gaikindo. They are still trying to boost sales until the GIIAS series is completed.

"We are trying to ensure that the GIIAS automotive exhibitions outside Jakarta and Jakarta Auto Week can serve as a stimulus to increase sales figures," he said.

In September 2024, Toyota remained the best-selling car manufacturer in Indonesia with wholesale sales of 25,454 units.

This was followed by Daihatsu and Honda, which recorded wholesale sales of 12,676 units and 7,926 units, respectively.
