According to a report by PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC), from October 2023 to August 22, 2024, the Whoosh High-Speed Rail transported approximately 200,000 foreign nationals.
"This proves that Whoosh has become a symbol of transportation modernization recognized by the international community," said Eva Chairunisa, General Manager of Corporate Secretary at PT KCIC, in a press release on Thursday (August 22, 2024).
Eva explained that foreign nationals or international tourists using Whoosh came from 154 countries.
The highest number of passengers came from Malaysia with approximately 85,000 passengers, followed by China with 45,000, Singapore with 30,000, Japan with 12,000, and Australia with 11,000 passengers.
By continent, the majority of passengers originated from Asia with approximately 148,000 passengers, followed by Europe with 24,000, North America with 16,000, Oceania with 11,000, Africa with 1,000, and South America with approximately 900 passengers.
"KCIC observes that the high number of passengers from Southeast Asia and Australia indicates that Whoosh has become a tourist attraction in itself for the international community around Indonesia," said Eva.
"The Indonesian Travel Agent Association reported in March 2024 that Whoosh has helped promote Jakarta and Bandung to Southeast Asian communities, encouraging them to visit Indonesia. This is because the high-speed rail project is the first of its kind in Southeast Asia," she continued.
