Based on data from the ASEAN Automotive Federation (AAF), motorcycle sales in ASEAN reached 5.15 million units in the first half of 2024.
This figure is down 3% year-on-year (yoy) compared to the 5.31 million units sold in the first half of the previous year.
It should be noted that the AAF only collects sales data for two-wheeled vehicles from five Southeast Asian countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand.
In the first half of 2024, motorcycle sales in Indonesia reached 3.17 million units, representing 61.48% of total ASEAN sales.
Despite its dominance, motorcycle sales in Indonesia fell by 1% (yoy) during this period.
Thailand ranked second with motorcycle sales of 890,534 units, a significant drop of 10.4% (yoy). The Philippines followed with 822,597 units, showing a 1.1% (yoy) increase in sales.
Malaysia sold 267,135 motorcycle units, down 11.1% (yoy). Meanwhile, motorcycle sales in Singapore totaled only 6,125 units, a 2.8% (yoy) increase.
The AAF also reported that motorcycle production in these five Southeast Asian countries totaled 5.31 million units in the first half of 2024, a decrease of 4.8% (yoy).
Indonesia remained the largest producer with 3.41 million units, followed by Thailand with 994,573 units, the Philippines with 652,374 units, and Malaysia with 259,463 units.
