Car sales in Indonesia show strong performance this year. In the first half of 2022, retail sales of four-wheeled vehicles reached 465,252 units.
The Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (GAIKINDO) recorded that this achievement is better than the January-June 2021 period, where retail car sales only reached 387,844 units.
By brand, Toyota remains the largest contributor to sales. Retail sales of Toyota cars during the first six months of 2022 reached 146,202 units, with a 31.4% market share.
Daihatsu ranks second with retail sales reaching 90,765 units, or 19.5% of the total cars sold in Indonesia. Mitsubishi Motors is in third place with 55,687 units sold from January to June 2022.
Honda is in fourth place with retail sales of 53,910 units. Suzuki completes the top five with retail sales of 41,060 units.
Gaikindo targets car sales in Indonesia this year to reach 900,000 units. This target is higher than last year's target of 750,000 units.
"The target is determined by considering the development of the Covid-19 virus. Especially since the beginning of the year, the Omicron variant has been spreading widely," Gaikindo was quoted as saying on Wednesday (20/7/2022).
