Based on data from the ASEAN Automotive Federation (AFF), car sales in Indonesia reached 84,098 units in January 2022, a 58.9% increase compared to the previous year's 52,909 units. With this figure, Indonesia maintains its position as the largest car market in ASEAN.
Thailand secured second place with the highest car sales in ASEAN, recording 69,455 units during the same period, representing a 25.8% growth.
Malaysia recorded January 2022 sales of 40,581 units, placing it third. This performance shows a 21.5% increase compared to the same period last year.
Vietnam followed in fourth place with 30,742 units sold. Next in order were the Philippines with 20,879 units, Singapore with 3,747 units, and Myanmar with 1,125 units.
Despite leading in sales, Indonesia lags behind Thailand in production. Thailand had the highest car production in ASEAN with 151,747 units in January 2022, while Indonesia held second place with 113,004 units.
In total, ASEAN car sales reached 250,627 units in January 2022. This represents a 24.8% increase from the same period last year, which saw 200,776 units sold.
