A report from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) shows that the number of domestic air passengers in April 2024 reached 5.86 million, a 30.63% increase compared to March 2024, which recorded 4.48 million passengers.
BPS stated that the increase in domestic passengers occurred across all observed airports: Kualanamu-Medan Airport (45.48%), Juanda-Surabaya Airport (40.02%), Hasanuddin-Makassar Airport (36.07%), Ngurah Rai-Denpasar Airport (28.02%), and Soekarno Hatta-Tangerang Airport (17.91%).
The highest number of domestic passengers was recorded at Soekarno Hatta-Tangerang Airport, reaching 1.6 million or 27.40% of the total domestic passengers, followed by Juanda-Surabaya Airport with 498,900 passengers (8.51% of the total).
Cumulatively, from January to April 2024, the number of domestic air passengers totaled 19.89 million, a 3.44% increase compared to the same period last year (19.2 million).
Positive achievement was also recorded in international passenger transportation in April 2024, reaching 1.49 million passengers. This figure is up 11.45% compared to March 2024 (1.34 million passengers).
BPS explained that the increase in passenger numbers occurred at Kualanamu-Medan Airport (29.90%), Ngurah Rai-Denpasar Airport (12.81%), Juanda-Surabaya Airport (12.11%), and Soekarno Hatta-Tangerang Airport (7.21%). Conversely, a decrease in passenger numbers was observed at Hasanuddin-Makassar Airport (-21.01%).
The highest number of international passengers was recorded at Soekarno Hatta-Tangerang Airport, reaching 653,900 passengers (43.61% of the total international passengers), followed by Ngurah Rai-Denpasar Airport with 548,700 passengers (36.59% of the total).
In total, from January to April 2024, the number of international air passengers, using both domestic and foreign airlines, reached 5.7 million, a 29.74% year-on-year (YoY) increase.
