The Indonesian National Police's Traffic Corps (Korlantas Polri) had issued 1.77 million traffic violation tickets (tilang) by October 2021. Of this number, 793,821 tickets, or 44.89%, were for minor violations.
746,153 tickets, or 42.22%, were for serious violations. Furthermore, 227,819 tickets, or 12.89%, were for moderate violations.
The Indonesian National Police (Polri) has implemented a new traffic violation enforcement system using a points system. This regulation is stipulated in Police Regulation (Perpol) Number 5 of 2021 concerning the Issuance and Marking of Driver's Licenses.
Under this regulation, the Polri is authorized to mark a driver's license for each traffic violation and accident. Each violation and accident carries a different point value.
Minor violations receive 1 point, moderate violations 3 points, and serious violations 5 points. Minor traffic accidents receive 5 points, moderate accidents 10 points, and serious accidents 12 points.
If the accumulated violations reach 12 points, the violator's driver's license will receive penalty one. The penalty is temporary suspension or revocation of the driver's license before a court ruling.
If 18 points are accumulated, the driver will receive penalty two: revocation of the driver's license based on a court ruling for a specific period. After this sanction period ends, the owner can reapply for a new driver's license.
