PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), or KAI, reported a surge in train passengers during the long Idul Adha holiday period from May 13-18, 2024.
Based on KAI data from Tuesday morning (June 18, 2024), the volume of train passengers during that period reached 989,382, or an average of 164,897 passengers per day.
"There was a 27% increase in passengers compared to the previous week, from Thursday (June 6, 2024) to Tuesday (June 11, 2024), when KAI served 780,039 passengers, or an average of 130,006 passengers per day," said KAI VP of Public Relations Joni Martinus in a press release on Tuesday (June 18, 2024).
He explained that the peak of outbound travel for this year's long Idul Adha holiday occurred on Saturday (June 15, 2024), with a total of 195,424 departing passengers.
The peak of the return flow fell on Tuesday (June 18, 2024), with a total of 163,631 passengers.
Popular routes throughout the Idul Adha holiday period included Jakarta-Surabaya round trip, Jakarta-Solo round trip, Jakarta-Malang round trip, Yogyakarta-Banyuwangi round trip, Blitar-Bandung round trip, and other routes.
To accommodate the surge in passengers during the long holiday, KAI prepared 30 additional trains, resulting in a total of 1,849 train trips.
