Indonesia's automotive exports in 2017 reached US$3.53 billion, or approximately Rp46.9 trillion, according to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS). This represents a 21.8% increase from the previous year's US$2.89 billion. Of Indonesia's top 10 automotive export destinations, the Philippines was the leading importer with US$1.28 billion. Saudi Arabia followed in second place at US$494.1 million, and Thailand in third at US$265.7 million.
For further information, the number of exported four-wheeled or larger motor vehicles last year grew by 18.92% to 231,169 units, from 194,397 units the previous year. Similarly, car imports increased by 17.35% to 88,683 units from 75,751 units.
Indonesia is the largest automotive producer in Southeast Asia. The ASEAN Automotive Federation recorded Indonesia's car production at 1.06 million units. This surpasses Thailand's automotive production of 769,000 units and Malaysia's 580,000 units.
