The number of passengers on the Jakarta Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) reached 707,854 in October 2021. This figure represents a 60.19% increase compared to September 2021, which recorded 441,875 passengers with a daily average of 14,729.
The average daily MRT ridership in October 2021 was 22,834, with 6,569 train trips completed without cancellations or delays. Punctuality in travel time, arrival, and train stops reached 100%.
The increase in passenger numbers was driven by the government's change in policy regarding the implementation of Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) from level 3 to level 2 in October 2021. MRT ridership had plummeted in July due to the emergency PPKM, which significantly impacted public mobility.
Throughout the PPKM period, MRT Jakarta required all users to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination. This was in accordance with the Head of Transportation Agency's decree mandating that MRT Jakarta users present proof of at least the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, in printed or digital format issued by authorized institutions, or via the Jakarta Kini (JAKI) or PeduliLindungi applications.
MRT Jakarta announced that during the pandemic, it also collaborated with feeder service providers such as PPD buses, Transjakarta, Bluebird, and Grab. Overall, these feeder services contributed 43.6% to MRT Jakarta's passenger transport figures in June 2021.
