Currently, two types of electric vehicles are widely available in the Indonesian market: Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) and Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs).

However, hybrid car emissions are higher than those of fully battery-powered electric vehicles. BEVs emit an average of only 5 grams of CO2 per kilometer.

Data from the Indonesian Automotive Manufacturers Association (Gaikindo) shows that wholesale sales of BEVs in the domestic market in 2022 reached 10,327 units, while hybrid car sales totaled 5,100 units.

Nevertheless, sales of BEVs and HEVs are projected to increase in the future, driven by potential government subsidies.

Last month (December 14, 2022), Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita announced proposed subsidy amounts for electric vehicle purchases:

* Electric cars: Rp80 million
* Hybrid cars: Rp40 million
* Electric motorcycles: Rp8 million
* Conversion of gasoline motorcycles to electric motorcycles: Rp5 million

However, these subsidy amounts are still being finalized. Subsidies will only be provided for electric vehicles manufactured in Indonesia.
