A report by US consulting firm Oliver Wyman and the University of California named Hong Kong as the city with the world's best public transportation system in 2022. The city's public transportation system achieved a public transport index score of 77.2% out of a possible 100%.
Thirteen metrics were used in measuring the index, including distance, affordability, travel speed, public transport density, and punctuality.
“Hong Kong tops our index. Its affordable transport network boasts high station density and a robust rail network for a large city population,” according to the Mobility Index Report 2022.
Zurich ranked second with a public transport index score of 73.2%. Stockholm and Singapore followed with scores of 73% and 72.4% respectively.
The global average public transport index score was 51.7%.

2. Abu Dhabi: 36.7%
3. Casablanca: 35%
4. Quito: 34.6%

6. Manila: 31.9%
7. Johannesburg: 26.8%
8. Riyadh: 25%
9. Nairobi: 24.7%
10. Jeddah: 21.8%
The Mobility Index Report 2022 states that public transport is the most efficient and sustainable way for cities to transport large groups of people compared to private transportation.
“Efficiently run systems can not only encourage workers and tourists to travel through the city, but can provide more equitable access to opportunities—additional modes of mobility, jobs, shopping centers, and more,” the report states.
This research included 60 major cities worldwide, including Jakarta, from six regions: North America, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, Asia Pacific, and Africa.
