Between 1959 and 2022, there were 1,027 airplane accidents worldwide, both fatal and non-fatal.
Globally, the airplane accident rate between 1959 and 2022 reached 1.13 accidents per 1 million flights.
This data is included in the *Statistical Summary of Commercial Jet Airplane Accidents* report released by Boeing (September 2023).
The report notes that between 1959 and 2022, the aircraft type with the highest accident rate was the Fokker F-28, at 4.4 accidents per 1 million flights.
The Fokker F-28 is an aircraft manufactured by Fokker, a Dutch manufacturer.
Other aircraft with relatively high accident rates are largely from Boeing, a manufacturer from the United States.
There are also some from Airbus, a French manufacturer, and British Aerospace (BAE) from the United Kingdom.
Here are the details of the 10 aircraft types with the highest accident rates worldwide from 1959 to 2022:
1. Fokker F-28: 4.4 accidents per 1 million flights
2. Boeing MD-11: 3.21
3. Boeing DC-10/MD-10: 2.87
4. Airbus A310: 2.53
5. Airbus A300: 2.52
6. Boeing 737-100/200: 1.78
7. BAE 146/RJ-70/85/100: 1.51
8. Boeing 737 Max: 1.48
9. Boeing DC-9: 1.45
10. Boeing 727: 1.22
Beyond these 10 models, there are several other aircraft types with high accident rates, such as the Boeing 707/720, Sud Aviation Caravelle, BAE Comet, Convair CV-880-990, BAE Concorde, and Dassault Aviation Mercure.
However, the accident rates for these aircraft are not recorded in detail because they have not been in operation for the past five years.
Aircraft types with the lowest accident rates include the Airbus A350, Airbus A380, Airbus C-Series, Boeing 717, Boeing 787, Boeing 747-8, and Bombardier CRJ-700/900/1000.
Between 1959 and 2022, the accident rate for these latter aircraft was less than 0.00 accidents per 1 million flights.
