Air travel activity in various countries has increasingly recovered by mid-2023. This is in line with the lifting of post-Covid-19 pandemic social policy regulations.
According to a report by the Official Airline Guide (OAG), Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport was the busiest in the world as of August 2023. A total of 5.41 million domestic and international passenger seats were filled at this Atlanta, USA airport.
Dubai International Airport in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) ranked second with 4.96 million filled passenger seats. This was followed by Tokyo Haneda International Airport in Japan with 4.67 million filled passenger seats.
Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport in the United States ranked fourth with 4.4 million filled passenger seats. Other US airports included in this month's busiest airport list include Denver International Airport, Los Angeles International Airport, and Chicago O'Hare International Airport.
"Half of the 10 busiest airports are located in the US, and Denver (DEN) experienced the biggest increase in ranking, from 17th largest in the pre-pandemic period of 2019 to 7th in August 2023," said the OAG team, as quoted from their website.
