Amidst the closure of several modern retail outlets due to low customer traffic resulting from decreased consumer purchasing power, PT Trans Retail Indonesia (Transmart) is expanding by opening several new outlets. The retail company owned by the CT Corp conglomerate even targets having 111 outlets by the end of 2017. Currently, the number of Transmart outlets is 104. This number consists of 70 Carrefour outlets, 26 Transmart Carrefour outlets, 6 Transmart outlets, and 2 Groserindo outlets.
Partnering with 938 Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), Transmart Carrefour opened its 104th outlet in Sukoharjo. Trans Retail will also open two new outlets in Pasaraya Blok M and Telogo Rejo, Semarang. For information, Matahari Department Store recently closed its outlet in Pasaraya Blok M due to low customer traffic.
Unlike other retail companies that mostly only provide shopping spaces, Transmart employs a 4-in-1 concept. This combines shopping, entertainment, culinary options, and cinemas. Of the 30 initially targeted, 24 outlets have been achieved, with the remainder planned to open in early 2018.
