Shopee's Parent Company Market Cap Plunges: What's its Value Now?

Sea Group's market capitalization has plummeted. According to Companies Market Cap data, the market capitalization of Shopee's parent company is recorded at US$46.46 billion today (April 27, 2022). This is a drastic decrease compared to November 6, 2021, when it reached US$197.55 billion.

Strict regulations in India and "money burning" are considered to be the causes of the decline in Sea Group's valuation. According to Bloomberg, the company reportedly lost more than US$16 billion or Rp230 trillion in daily market capitalization after India blocked its game, Free Fire.

Sea Group also confirmed its decision to close Shopee in India and France. The e-commerce platform had only been present in both countries for about six months.

The decline in Sea Group's market capitalization now places Shopee's parent company 7th globally. Amazon still holds the first position with a market capitalization of US$1.41 trillion.

Alibaba is in second place with a market capitalization of US$225.72 billion, followed by Meituan and JD.com at US$114.64 billion and US$89.90 billion respectively.
