10 Countries Ranked with the Best Sustainable Trade Practices; Indonesia Not Included

The Institute for Management Development (IMD), together with The Hinrich Foundation, compiled sustainable trade values summarized in the *Sustainable Trade Index 2022* report.

At least 30 countries were involved in this sustainable trade research.

New Zealand ranked first, achieving a perfect score of 100 points on a scale of 0-100.

Second was the United Kingdom, scoring 94.38 points. Third was Hong Kong with 87.87 points.

Japan ranked fourth with a score of 83.09 points. Singapore came in fifth with 82.7 points.

Indonesia did not make the top 10, scoring only 41.21 points and ranking 18th.

The research team stated that this index measures the readiness and capacity of the countries studied to participate in global trade in a way that supports the long-term goals of economic growth, environmental protection, and societal development.

The assessment is determined through 70 indicators, grouped into three pillars:

The economic pillar examines the relationship between the trading system and economic growth.

The social pillar measures human capital development, such as education levels and labor standards.

Finally, the environmental pillar measures economic environmental capital and includes indicators for air and water pollution.

"In relation to future impacts, we measure national environmental standards, carbon emissions, and the share of natural resources in exports," the research team wrote in their report.
